MEET THE
VISIONARY
Hello and thank you for visiting my web site.
I am a fine artist based in Santa Barbara on the California Central Coast. I am dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind fine furniture and fine art pieces.
My love of art surfaced when I was in grade school, but gained direction when I turned 18 and became immersed in building architectural models at a design firm in Stockholm, Sweden. This two-week apprenticeship was part of a year-long high school exchange program spent in the beautiful architectural landscape of Stockholm and within the rich design culture of Scandinavia. It opened my eyes to an innovative world of architectural materials and design and launched me in my passion to develop skills I have been refining to this day. I can remember the excitement of creating wonderful wooden models in the firm’s design workshop and being captivated by the quality and detail of each piece and by an awakening sense of my own creative potential. Working with my hands to create a finished model, which was both beautiful and precise, has influenced my artistic sensibility ever since.

The Pepsi Mirror
Introducing the Pepsi Mirror! I’ve always wanted to create a fun piece with soda cans. My focus for a can choice was more about the colors and how they viewed once strategically crushed, not on any specific branding or logos. After looking at dozens of cans, including kombucha, coffee, tea, flavored waters, and numerous others, I decided on the blue and silver Pepsi cans. Silver Diet Pepsi cans are placed around the inside and regular blue Pepsi cans on the perimeter.
The Pepsi can area floats between the outside and inside framing. The corner frame joinery is tapped using very specific button head socket cap stainless screws. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The initial sketching led to further computer dimensioning. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 29-1/2” x 32-5/8” x 3-1/4”
Materials: Poplar, Pepsi Cans, Button Head Socket Cap Screws, Truss Head Screws, Beveled Mirror

The Kaleidoscope Mirror
Introducing the Kaleidoscope Mirror! This new design includes a unique bamboo plywood, and custom cut and finished colored acrylic. This design, like most of my pieces, start with significant planning and precise computer dimensioning. The design was dictated by the size and number of the acrylic pieces and their exact spacing. Note – the outer ring of acrylic pieces have a greater height than the inner pieces. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat acrylic pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 34” x 40” x 2-1/2”
Materials: Bamboo Plywood, Basswood, Acrylic, Beveled Mirror, Screws

The Ladderback Chair
While working with a regional architecture firm, I had been asked to design a chair for the Chair Show at the Contemporary Art Museum here in Santa Barbara a number of years ago. Approximately 100 artists/designers were asked to design a chair (functional or not) for the museum fundraiser.
I immediately thought of the bag of 1-5/8” aeronautical screws I had been holding on to in the garage for a special piece. This design then came to life in a few minutes on a napkin sketch, then further computer dimensioning. Two identical chairs were made. One was made for the museum auction, and another for myself. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 17″ x 30″ x 50″
Materials: Satine, Brazilian Satinwood, 1-5/8″ Steel Screws

The Donut Mirror
Introducing the Donut Mirror! The inspiration for this piece came from seeing some playful tinted art pieces in the Santa Barbara Museum of Art retail store. This design incorporates teak and maple circular slices attached in a very define order to the white poplar wood back. The outside frame integrates tinted recessed wood plugs to further accentuate the design. A little sketching led to further computer dimensioning. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat donut pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 33-1/2” x 35-3/16” x 3-5/8”
Materials: Teak, Maple, Poplar, Beveled Mirror, Paint Tints

The Maple Teak Acrylic Cart
Introducing the Maple Teak Acrylic Cart! This project evolved out of the wish to create a distinctive table/cart utilizing some special materials I had set aside for some time – teak columns, acrylic, and some great stainless-steel castors (wheels).
Each level of the maple frames include bevel detailing, and are supported with the teak columns. The colored acrylic pieces are adhered to ¼” thick glass and simply inlayed at each level. Recessed threaded rods hold the top maple frame to the bottom maple frame, and are topped off with custom maple end grain plugs. Distinctive stainless-steel swivel castors guide the cart effortlessly. Construction tolerances are very tight, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 17-1/2″ x 20-1/2″ x 28-1/2″ tall
Materials: Maple, Teak, Acrylic, Stainless-Steel Castors

The Geometrico Mirror
Introducing the Geometrico Mirror! This project evolved while playing with some small pieces of wood and enjoying the overlapping effect of the wood. That led to a few sketches which led to further computer dimensioning. The main basswood frame joinery is a half-lap joint with dowels also going through from top to bottom for additional strength. 3 jigs (3 different widths at 1/4” height) provided uniform pieces of the mahogany and wenge which overlap the perimeter with birch dowels holding them to the basswood frame.
The dowel boring of the mahogany and wenge pieces, and the base basswood frame below had no room for error. Thus construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat wood pattern, therefore assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 28” x 38-1/2” x 3-3/4” depth including wall bracket
Mirror Size: 13-1/2” x 24”
Materials: Basswood, Mahogany, Wenge, Birch, Beveled Mirror

Squirt – The Drink with the HAPPY Taste! (painting)
Introducing SQUIRT – The Drink with the Happy Taste! I’ve always thought these vintage Squirt advertising images were quite delightful. A little painting time and voila – Squirt is reborn. Limited Edition Giclée Canvas Prints are available. Each canvas giclée print is made to order. Shipped ready to hang.
Size: 24” x 36”

The Whimsical Mirror
Introducing the Whimsical Mirror! This project evolved from the desire to create a unique mirror incorporating a diverse mix of turned pieces. The turned pieces are projecting from a 16” poplar ring that is floated 5/8” above the beveled mirror with discreetly placed dowels that insert precisely through the mirror to the backing board.
There are 18 turned pieces which are painted 9 different colors which allows for each color to be shown opposite itself around the poplar ring. The 18 turned pieces are in a defined order to allow for a specific repeat design. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat perimeter pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 29-1/2″ round, 5-3/8″ depth including wall bracket
Materials: Poplar, Fir, Cherry, Baltic Birch Plywood, Paint, 1-1/2″ Beveled Mirror

The Domino Mirror
Introducing the Domino Mirror! This project evolved while playing with some domino pieces and then going online to print out some domino images. That led to a quick sketch which led to further computer dimensioning. A standard domino typically measures 1” x 2” x 3/8”. My design is based on the dominoes being at 300% (3” x 6” x 1-1/8”).
The dominoes are floated 5/16” above the frame surface below. Dark, almost black, Wenge wood and Honduran Mahogany were chosen to express the rich contrast between the two woods. Custom wenge wood plugs were recessed within the individual dominoes. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat domino pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Materials: Wenge, Honduran Mahagony
Size: 30” x 36” x 3-3/4”

The Black Beauty Table
Introducing the Black Beauty Table! The inspiration for this project came from my desire to create a distinctive display table with a single drawer. The drawer features dovetail joinery and a wenge drawer bottom. After a few drawings I created a quarter scale model which inspired me to move forward with a full scale prototype (which can be viewed in the gallery). I knew in order to produce a table of this design and stability would require I create a number of custom jigs and templates.
I started with a leg tapering jig, then about 7 drilling jigs, a frame and panel tenon cutting jig, and a template to assist with wrapping the drawer box around the legs. I favored the double legs since I thought they would contribute to a pronounced viewing perspective. Wenge and Yellowheart woods were selected for a striking contrast. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 21” x 16” x 37” tall
Materials: Wenge, Yellowheart

The Purpleheart Mirror
Introducing the Purpleheart Mirror! This mirror is a continuation in the series of mirrors. After a few sketches of the idea, the final full scale computer drawing was created. 1-9/16” diameter borings are equally spaced around the poplar inner. The frame is custom doweled throughout. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 26-3/4” x 32” x 3-7/8”
Materials: Purpleheart, Poplar, 1-1/2” Beveled Mirror

Drink Pepsi (painting)
Introducing Drink Pepsi! I’ve always thought these vintage late 1950’s vending machines were quite beautiful. They were used for many brands – Coca Cola, Dr Pepper, 7up, Orange Crush, Royal Crown, and more. They were first manufactured in 1957 and with 9 rows they held up to 81 bottles. A little painting time and voila – the vintage Pepsi machine is reborn. Limited Edition Giclée Canvas Prints are available. Each canvas giclée print is made to order. Shipped ready to hang.
Size: 16” x 20”
Materials: Acrylic on canvas

The Finland Birch Mirror
Introducing the Finland Birch Mirror! This project evolved while playing with some pieces of Finland Color Plywood. That lead to a quick sketch which led to further computer dimensioning. Various thicknesses of the colored plywood are utilized. 2 recessed threaded rods hold each side of the frame secure (8 rods in total). The center mirror surface is floated between the large frame with dowels. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat block pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 28-1/4” x 31-3/4” x 5”
Materials: Finland Color Phenolic Birch Plywood, 1-1/2” Beveled Mirror, Steel Rods

The Teak Coffee Table
Introducing the Teak Coffee Table! The inspiration for this project came from my desire to create a distinctive coffee table featuring solid teak, and specifically working with my own resawn teak utilizing a vacuum bag on form system. A key design intention for the table was that it have a shelf to hide a couple coffee table books or periodicals.
After a couple drawings I created a full-size model. The full-size model explored 4 single legs, 2 full width legs, and 2 single and 1 full width. The final piece is composed of the 4 leg solution. Creating the legs required 1/2” apple plywood forms, with 1/8” Italian bending plywood, 3/8” wiggle board, and the 3/32” resawn teak veneer. In addition to the top edge banding, the following are also solid teak – the bread boards (ends of top shelves), the top vertical and horizontal spacers, the leg support shelf, and the leg upper and lower molding. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 43” x 17” x 18-1/4”
Materials: Teak, Apple Plywood, Italian Bending Plywood, Wiggle Board

The Silver Walnut Mirror
Introducing the Silver Walnut Mirror! This project evolved from my desire to create a unique mirror design using some decorative frame molding that I acquired a couple years prior. I favored the molding profile viewed in small individual frames. A little sketching led to further computer dimensioning. The 4 silver frames are inset within the walnut trim base. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 33” x 33” x 3”
Materials: Walnut, Baltic birch

The Laminati Beveled Mirror
Introducing the Laminati Beveled Mirror! This project evolved while playing with some small pieces of laminate and enjoying the overlapping colorful effect. That led to a quick sketch which led to further computer dimensioning. The basswood frame required a unique jig to be built to hold the basswood lumber to run them through the planer to create the wide bevel effect. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat border pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 26-1/8” x 40-3/4” x 3”
Materials: Basswood, Laminate

The Quadrato Mirror
Introducing the Quadrato Mirror! This project was inspired by playing with some small blocks of wood and dowels. That led to a quick sketch which led to further computer dimensioning. The frame edge includes a distinctive cove routed inset. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat block pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 31-1/4” x 39” x 4-1/4”
Materials: Basswood, Poplar, Beveled Mirror, Paint

The Finland Copper Mirror
Introducing the Finland Copper Mirror! The inspiration for this project came from my desire to create a unique mirror utilizing some of my stock of Finland Color Phenolic Birch Plywood – thus exhibiting numerous layers of plywood, and exploring the application of copper sheets on the front surface. The solid plywood frame displays an inside bevel, as well as a bevel at the back outside of the frame.
The copper plates were cut to fit the precise pattern displayed and attached with copper nails. The copper received a custom patina application. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat copper pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.

6000 Watts
Introducing the 6000 Watts! This assemblage piece started with a number of large vintage projector bulbs I’ve had for years. I noticed that I also had an interesting aeronautical gear that happen to have an inner diameter at one end that perfectly fit the 1000 watt bulbs. Additionally, I had a chain that happen to fit one end of the gear.
Thus, I thought the bulbs, gear, and chain deserved to be displayed with a nice custom block of walnut. The custom teak washers and wenge legs were added to finish off the assemblage. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 29” x 5-1/2” x 17-1/2” tall
Materials: Walnut, Teak, Wenge, Vintage 1960’s Projector Bulbs – 4 @ 750w, 3 @ 1000w

The Walnut Lamp
Introducing the Walnut Lamp! This project evolved from my desire to create a unique lamp using some of my one-of-a-kind aeronautical hardware that had yet to find itself in a design piece. That led to a quick sketch which led to further computer dimensioning. The 3 large round center legs are turned in walnut to fit the stainless-steel aeronautical collars top and bottom precisely. The additional prototype parts are crafted in MDF board and poplar (both stained to portray the final walnut result).
The lamp shade required a custom jig to be made to assure the wooden slats and mica pieces align perfectly perpendicular to the upper and lower lampshade wheel frames. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat pattern, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect! The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: 30” x 3-1/4” x 36 tall
Materials: MDF & Poplar for prototype, Walnut, Aeronautical Hardware, Mica

The Galvanized Door Design
Introducing the Galvanized Door Design! After showing a client a previous design piece of mine that comprised of corrugated Icelandic Sheet Metal, the client commissioned me to design a door composition for his home utilizing galvanized corrugated steel and stainless-steel screws. Once completing a couple dozen computer generated designs, I finalized the sheering and finishing specifications for the fabricator. The installation included the screw design around the door perimeter. All the metal plates are offset from the door, and each other. The conceptual design can be seen in the gallery section.
Size: full door
Materials: Aluminum, Corrugated Metal, Powder Coating, Stainless Steel Screws

The Music Notes
Introducing the Music Notes! The inspiration for this piece came from experimenting with various cuts on my new Swiss made Inca model-making table saw. After cutting a few sample pieces I composed this small wall piece to mimic music notes.
Size: 33” x 9-1/4” x 1-3/4”
Materials: Oak, Walnut

The Resume in a Box (Promotional Marketing Tool Box)
Introducing the Resume in a Box! This distinctive piece was created as a personal marketing tool to pitch new design and project management endeavors in the mid 90’s. It is essentially a 3D resume. The individually engraved “tags” within the bottom of the box are broken down into nouns and adjectives that at the time were to share personal & professional qualities. There are a total of 53 tags.
The wood tray resting on the top of the tags was conceived to portray what might be a top tier in a tool box and contains miscellaneous items such as a few nuts & bolts, a few washers, a couple of wrenches, and some writing items. The tray also includes a booklet labeled – “Nuts & Bolts Promotional Toolbox Plans”. This booklet contains the design drawings.
In order to open the toolbox one needs to unscrew the 4 red Finland Color Phenolic Birch Plywood hexagonal screws (2 on each side), and then lift the top straight up by the oversized bolt handle atop. The toolbox is supported by height adjustable stainless-steel glides. A custom fit corrugated cardboard case was created for safe transportation. Construction tolerances are very tight, especially with such a repeat pattern internally, thus assuring the finished piece is perfect!
Size: 23-1/4” x 11-1/8″ x 11-3/4″ plus handle
